Foggy inspires England to win the World Cup ... probably!
10 May 2010
Carl is appearing in the new TV ad for Carlsberg, the official beer of the England football team, in the build-up to this year’s World Cup.
Foggy joins a cast list that read’s like a who’s who of English sporting greats. They all combine to deliver “Probably the best team talk in the world…” to the England football team.
The sporting line-up also includes Sir Trevor Brooking, Nigel Benn, World Cup winner Jack Charlton, Stuart Pearce, fifteen times world darts champion Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor and legendary adventurer Sir Ranulph Fiennes. English rock giants Kasabian also appear to give the England squad the team talk of their life in this inspirational campaign.
Carl said: “It was great to be asked by Carlsberg to appear in their ad and nice to be recognised as one of the English sporting greats. I think it’s – probably – the best commercial in the world! I’m a big fan of the England football team and hopefully this might inspire them to go on and win the World Cup.”
The ad first aired on Saturday May 8th and will run throughout June. This advert is part of Carlsberg’s wider campaign to inspire the England team this summer. Since February, the brewer has been asking fans to show their support by creating their own team talks and has now unveiled its own version.
The ad begins two minutes before kick-off with Stuart Pearce delivering some final words of inspiration in the dressing room, we then follow the team on their way to the pitch being spurred on by the likes of Sir Ian Botham and five-time Olympic gold medallist Sir Steve Redgrave. The team pass Carl in the tunnel and he fixes them with his trademark steely stare before going on to perform a burn-out on a Ducati 1198 S Corse as the pre-match emotion reaches fever pitch.
Having been cheered through the tunnel by a shirtless Jeff Stelling – complete with St. George’s Cross body paint – the final scene of the advert sees the team being led out of the tunnel by Bobby Moore alongside a lion as they prepare to take on the world.
Commenting on the new campaign, Paul Davies, Director of Brands and insight at Carlsberg UK, said “This ad has been in the making for months and we hope it can help deliver some additional inspiration for the England team and the fans. Pulling the shoot together was an impressive undertaking and it was a real honour to bring all of these sporting heroes together.”
The ad was produced by Saatchi & Saatchi and directed by Jeff Labbe. In addition to the full 90 second advert, there will also be shorter edits running in the build up to this summer’s big tournament. To view the full length ad go to www.englandteamtalk.com.
The advert was filmed on location at the ‘The Den’, the home of Millwall FC. With so many celebrities, sport stars and extras on set, the filming of the advert was done on a massive scale.
